”They don’t collapse anymore, that was really unworthy of a top club”

Jan Everse worked a lot with Arne Slot in the past. The 67-year-old Everse follows Slot closely and is impressed. Feyenoord has made great strides in recent months. Now the question is how long the Rotterdammers can last.

“I didn’t expect them to do so well,” Everse said US. ”But you see that Ajax and PSV easily lose points. And at Feyenoord it is not bad at the moment. They look fit and play aggressively. They no longer collapse against opponents like RKC, as they did in recent years. That was really unworthy of a top club.”

Everse soon saw that Slot’s hand is visible at Feyenoord. ”They are putting a lot of pressure on them and the position play also looks a lot better than in recent years. Feyenoord needed a trainer instead of a coach. They’ve had too many coaches who just put up the figures. Every day a trainer is busy instilling automatisms. That takes a lot of energy, but you get a lot in return.”

“I’ve missed that in recent years”
The question is whether Feyenoord can really participate with the top. “If the players stay fit and don’t get sold, I can see them participating for quite a long time. But maybe Luis Sinisterra or Marcos Senesi will be sold. Then it becomes a different story. They shouldn’t lose three or four players with injuries because they have a narrow roster and what’s behind it isn’t much. But they have fun playing. I missed that in recent years. And then a lot is possible.”
