Ciudad Juárez.- As of March 15, the Undersecretary of Education and Sports in the North Zone will begin importing nine trailers with educational furniture such as benches, desks, filing cabinets, double tables for children, which were donated by institutions in Las Cruces, New Mexico, as well as Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas.
Maurilio Fuentes, Undersecretary of Education and Sports, reported that after learning of the donation, they began the process before the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit for tax exemption, a request that has already been authorized.
“For reasons of logistics and saving money, we are going to do it from the 15th of this month, trying not to generate any expense for the State Government, everything is being done through donations made by the carriers, people who lent cellars to store all the furniture; The State Government is saving more than 16 million in this,” said the official.
He acknowledged that the equipment has been in El Paso since last year, but they had to wait to complete the negotiations with the Treasury, an issue that was resolved last January.
“The carriers that support us and those who protect us, asked us that as of March 15 they could give us completely free transportation to bring them to our warehouses,” said Maurilio Fuentes.
The distribution: first to those who have less
According to the undersecretary, it will be sought that the delivery of furniture to the schools be as immediate as possible, however, previously the schools had to make a request for equipment, through the Single System of School Needs (SUNE), belonging to the System of School Information (SIE).
“All the teachers hand in their requisition for the needs of benches, desks, filing cabinets, etc. to SUNE, so we are going to give priority to those who first submitted their equipment request and also to the schools that are in the most vulnerable area of the city”, he explained.
Although if the issue of applications were considered, the official acknowledged that the priority will be given to highly marginalized schools that are located on the banks of Juárez, such as the southeast, south-west, north-west, etc.
“All those communities on the periphery are the ones that are going to have priority over the rest of the schools,” the official acknowledged.
Maurilio Fuentes said that at the request of donors, all the donated equipment will be delivered to schools in Ciudad Juárez and the North Zone.
