They discover a narco-tunnel in the storm drain of Nogales, Sonora

Nogales.- The United States Border Patrol reported the discovery of a tunnel in the transboundary stormwater streams between Nogales, Sonora and Nogales, Arizona.

The Office of Customs and Border Protection (US Customs and Border Protection), said that security personnel of corporations in Mexico and the United States dedicated themselves this Monday to covering it with cement, in order to prevent it from being used for drug trafficking or weapons.

The discovery was made by video surveillance, where the agents detected -on Sunday night- a 61 x 61-centimeter exit about 800 meters west of the Denis Deconcini sentry box.

On the Mexican side, the Mexican National Guard located its entrance on the floor of the Drainage System that connects to the Grand Avenue in Arizona.

The rudimentary hand-dug tunnel stretched for approximately 10 feet and had no shoring, ventilation, or lighting.

This is tunnel 127 discovered in the Tucson sector since 1990 and the first ever discovered this fiscal year.

Binational cooperation between the United States Border Patrol and the Government of Mexico plays a vital role in border security.

Both the efforts, such as the destruction of tunnels, aim to disrupt transnational criminal organizations and prevent the smuggling of narcotics and humans across the border, the United States Customs Office reported.
