Alonso Castillo Cuevas, son of Alejandra Cuevas Morán —accused by Alejandro Gertz Manero of “intentional homicide due to omission of assistance” to the detriment of Federico Gertz and who was released by the SCJN— assured that as a US citizen he went to the State Department and the FBI of the United States to denounce the behavior of the head of the FGR.
“A few months ago I spoke with the FBI, I gave them all the information on Alejandro Gertz; I have also contacted the State Department and contacted my local representatives in the state in which I live in the US.”
In a telephone interview, Castillo Cuevas said that during the proceedings against his mother and grandmother, Laura Morán, the prosecutor demanded that he incriminate himself with a crime that Gertz Manero “fabricated while my mother was in prison.” For this reason, he added, the letter from United States congressmen to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and prosecutor Merrick Garland to express their concern about the political use and personal revenge made by Alejandro Gertz Manero, from the FGR, is a step important.
“As a US citizen, I felt protected when I saw that the United States Senate is aware of the situation in Mexico and that in this letter they have not only highlighted economic issues, but also focused on the case of my mother, Alejandra Cuevas Morán. , who spent 528 days illegally imprisoned for a crime fabricated by the Attorney General of the Republic.
“This opens an important door for us as a family, because if the United States Senate wants to know the details of this story, we can gladly share our testimony.”
