The human rights organization Minerva Bello Victims’ Rights Center assured that police in the Mexican state of Guerrero killed two young students from Ayotzinapa in an operation carried out during the night of Thursday.
«A young man died at the scene and another in the hospital. “We demand the clarification of the facts and the immediate arrest of state security elements,” he said in a statement.
The news was announced in the midst of a climate of extreme tension due to the fight between President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the relatives of the 43 young people from Ayotzinapa who disappeared in September 2014.
The newspaper La Jornada confirmed that the two students died from gunshot wounds in a town located outside Chilpancingo, the capital of Guerrero.
He explained that the victims were heading to the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Normal School of Ayotzinapa to prepare for the commemoration of the 98th anniversary of its foundation, but when passing through a police checkpoint, the officers gave them a signal to stop and they did not do so. , so they opened fire on him.
At dawn, upon hearing the news, other students went to the checkpoint and began to confront the agents, at whom they threw firecrackers.
Some students even seized a patrol car, took it to another part of the city and burned it.

The Guerrero Public Security Secretariat, for its part, assured that the vehicle in which the students were traveling had been reported stolen. In addition, he reported that the young people shot at the police officers.
«The crew of the truck received the security elements with gunshots, so the personnel repelled the attack and managed to arrest a man. “In the exchange of shots, one of the attackers was injured, for which reason he was transferred for medical attention,” he explained in a statement in which he only talks about one injured person, but does not recognize any fatality.
He also added that a short firearm and useful cartridges were found inside the vehicle, “as well as 3 bags of a crystalline substance,” so the Guerrero Prosecutor’s Office is already carrying out the corresponding investigations.
An official statement from the governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado, is expected this Friday, in addition to the fact that there will be student marches to repudiate the violence against their classmates.
