They denounce officials for property fraud in Baja California Sur

La Paz.— For altering the amounts of property tax collection to the detriment of the treasury, at least three officials of the administration of this municipality were disqualified and criminally denounced, and a possible network of corruption that operated in the past administration is being investigated.

The mayor of La Paz, Milena Quiroga Romero, reported that complaints were filed that derived from the results of an audit applied to the past administration —headed by former mayor Rubén Muñoz Álvarez (Morena), current federal deputy—, where it was detected at least one property with a value of 98 million pesos, which meant a property tax of 4 million pesos, which was modified to require only the payment of 15 thousand pesos.

As he explained, these three officials would be involved in this operation where they modified the amount to be paid up to three times.

He said that they have not yet been able to support other cases similar to these operations; however, the first investigations show that this practice would have been recurrent in the past and extended to other areas.

In turn, the municipal comptroller, Ernesto Rodríguez Hurtado, specified that the first complaint was made in December of last year and a second had already been filed with the agent of the Public Ministry Specialized in Crimes Committed by Public Servants, a file that was initiated by the possible crime of illicit and improper use of powers.
