The general secretary of the State Workers Association (ATE) of Argentina, Rodolfo Aguiar, today denounced a police operation to prevent employees from entering organizations and ministries, as part of a protest against layoffs.
They are filling public offices with police. There is no money to buy food or medicine, but there is money to repress, he stated.
They appointed a human resources manager from one of the most powerful economic groups as Secretary of Labor (Julio Cordero). Javier Milei’s government decided to outsource the adjustment. Now Techint (a multinational company primarily dedicated to the production of steel) has the chainsaw, but we are going to fight, he added.
This day, the members of ATE arrived at their workplaces to make massive and simultaneous contributions against the layoffs in the public administration that during the weekend amounted to 11 thousand.
Provoking massive layoffs in the State is suppressing fundamental rights of people and that is conduct classified in our Penal Code. Violating the guarantee of stability provided for in the Constitution tens of thousands of times causes the suppression of other fundamental rights that the entire society has, Aguiar indicated.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the Executive is “dangerous and ruthless,” which is why he anticipated “the repudiation of any act of repression that could be ordered from the Casa Rosada.”
Among the institutions where a strong police operation was deployed is the Chief of Staff, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Human Rights, the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism and the Scientific Pole.
