A seven-year-old boy is admitted to the National Children’s Hospital (HNN) for a burn on his arm, which, apparently, was caused by his own mother as punishment after he took ₡200 from her wallet.
When her grandfather, Álvaro González, found out what had happened, he took him to the hospital and reported his daughter to the authorities.
“For me it was something very hard and difficult, when I woke up on Sunday and I saw the wound on his hand, I asked him, daddy, what happened to him there, I saw him sad and he did not want to tell me, so I asked my daughter and He replied: ‘I had to punish him,’ González explained to a team of C7 Informative.
The minor is already stable and, of course, his grandfather insists to the authorities that he not be sent to a shelter, but that they give him custody to care for him.
“I want power, I have the means, I have my own home and another daughter who takes care of him, I only ask from the bottom of my heart that he not be taken to a shelter,” González said.
The Children’s Hospital attended, last year, an average of three similar cases per day, while the National Children’s Board (PANI) reports having received 229 complaints of abuse against minors per day in 2022.
Of these complaints, 80,898 were reported to the 9-1-1 emergency line, another 2,414 entered through the entity’s WhatsApp (8989-1147) and an additional 499 cases were reported through social networks.
This specific case is being attended to and investigated by the HNN and the PANI.
