A Cuban citizen went to social networks to report the discovery of a ditch full of human bones found outdoors in the Colón Cemetery, in the province of Matanzas.
The publication, shared on the profile Tazmanian Cubanindicated that these bones are found outdoors, an image that is disturbing.
The photograph shared by the Internet user shows that several of the remains still had what appears to be clothing, and that there were too many to calculate an exact number of people.
“And meanwhile in the Colón Cemetery… This is how most of the Cubans will end up, lying on the floor,” said the complainant.

According to several of the comments made in the tweet, the bones would be from people who have been dead for more than two years and whose relatives or loved ones do not attend the exhumation of the bodies within the period established by the authorities for this purpose.
Other Internet users point out that this practice has become relatively normal in the island’s cemeteries, probably due to the lack of space in these places.
Despite this, the images proved to be disturbing and outrageous for many of the users, who consider that it is no way to treat someone’s mortal remains.
“If the family doesn’t pay for the space where they have you, unless you have your own space, you go there”; “You can’t even rest in peace in this country anymore” and “This is the most bizarre thing I’ve seen today. It gave me a chest pain to imagine that one of my relatives could end up like this,” were some of the comments.
Theft of remains in Matanzas
The situation is not limited to the Colón cemetery, as several of these cemeteries have reported the illegal opening of graves and the theft of bones. Likewise, citizens have pointed out that they often find skeletal remains outdoors in these places.
The state press has blamed people who practice Santeria for this, which look for human bones to carry out rituals. In that sense, the people who take care of these places point out that it is common for skulls to disappear from tombs, since that part is one of the most used by santeros.
