They demand that the Government intervene in the University of Mothers
Eduardo Valdés denounced the police action “on orders of the Government,” which in his opinion violates university autonomy.
The national deputy of Union for the Homeland Eduardo Valdes On Monday, the UN presented a draft resolution demanding an end to government interference in the University of the Mothers (UNMa) and condemning the decision to prevent, through police action, the entry of students and workers from the National University of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo (UNMa).
The educational headquarters, located at 119 Defensa Street, in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, was surrounded from morning until 4 p.m. During that period, teaching and non-teaching staff were prevented from moving around the building and the principal Cristina Caamano was locked up, Valdés reported.
Valdés pointed out the seriousness of this incident: “The actions of the Federal Police at the behest of the Government constitute a breach of the State’s obligation to guarantee university autonomy as enshrined in the constitutional reform of 1994.” In this regard, he said: “Today’s events are yet another attack on public universities that are being deprived of a budget.”
In December 2023, the National Executive had ordered the suspension of the UNMa budget, suspending the payment of teaching and non-teaching salaries and affecting more than 300 families, arguing that the university was “an administrative mess.”
The legislator recalled that the University of the Mothers has not yet received its budget and the federal administrative court of first instance rejected a precautionary measure by UNMa against the Ministry of Human Capital, in which it had requested that the automatic cessation of the retention of funds be ordered and that the transfer of more than 556,000 million pesos from the national budget be made effective.
