A referendum on the communist monument of Buzludzha is being held today in Kazanlak. People answer the question: “Do you support the Kazanlak Municipality to receive and use property – private state property “Monument House” on Mount Buzludzha for 10 years?”.

The specified period is the maximum in which, by law, the municipality can take it from the state. The ambition is to turn the “plate” into a cultural and touristic product. Among the most frequently mentioned are a “concert hall” and in general the transformation of the summit into a “world-class congress center”.
“Buzludzha must preserve its history, sealed in the concrete, in the walls and in the mosaics. It must continue to “speak” to future generations about the past. Analyzes showing its presence as a leading Bulgarian destination also point to the value of the monument as a world tourist site in the portfolios of travel agencies,” the municipality’s Facebook page says, quoting Mayor Galina Stoyanova (GERB).
