Prince Harry, who has retired from aristocratic life, has been accused of disrespecting Queen Elizabeth II with his decision not to come to Britain for a religious ceremony in memory of his grandfather, Prince Philip, who died last year, AFP reported.

A spokesman for Harry said yesterday that the prince would miss the ceremony at the end of the month without giving an explanation. However, he clarified that Harry hopes to visit the queen soon.

The prince and his wife Megan decided in 2019 to retire from their public duties and live in California.

Angela Levine, author of a book about Elizabeth II’s grandson, wrote in the Sun subtitled “Harry treats Philip with contempt.” In his absence, he shows such an attitude towards the queen.

Harry and Megan’s withdrawal from public service automatically deprived them of the police guards they had in Britain until then at the expense of taxpayers. Harry offered to bear the costs and appealed the refusal received by the Home Secretary.

Harry “is wrong on all fronts, if he comes to a royal family event, there will be police protection,” Levine said.

The ceremony in memory of Prince Philip, who died last April at the age of 99, will take place on March 29. Queen Elizabeth II is supposed to be present, but her health has been fragile for several months, and she also contracted COVID-19 a few weeks ago. On Friday, she canceled another public engagement – a religious service for the Commonwealth of Nations at Westminster Abbey on Monday next week.
