Donut Robotics, a Japanese startup, has developed a smart mask that fits over the face mask, connects to mobile devices via Bluetooth, and allows communication in different ways without bringing the phone closer to the face, reports the agency. Reuters.

To facilitate adaptation to the new reality that the global pandemic of COVID-19 has generated, That company has developed an application that allows making phone calls, transcribes speech into text messages, translates from Japanese into eight languages, and amplifies the voice of the wearer of the chinstrap.

In just a month, Donut Robotics specialists created a prototype thanks to adapting the translation software they developed for a previous project and a mask that one of its engineers created four years ago.

“We worked hard for years to develop a robot and we used that technology to create a product that responds to the way the coronavirus has changed society,” said Donut Robotics CEO Taisuke Ono.

The first batch of these smart masks will feature 5,000 units, which will be sold in Japan for the equivalent of about $ 40. Over time, Donut Robotics plans to expand its sales to China, the US and Europe, where its managers claim that the product has generated great interest.
