They create a site to schedule appointments for the vaccine against covid-19

The state launched a new website Monday to help people get a vaccine from different providers. Only a few sites in North Texas are participating.

The announcement comes just as vaccine eligibility was expanded for citizens 16 and older.

The new site with the Texas Public Health Immunization Agenda people can sign up for a dose and are directed to the nearest place where they can receive it.

Texans without internet can call 1-833-832-7067 between 7 am and 7 pm to find a time.

“The goal is for us to have a lot of people log into the system, so we can identify where they are physically located in the state and look up events within those communities,” said Nancy Ejuma, deputy commissioner for the Department of State Health Services.

In North Texas the City of Garland Health Department, Rockwall County Health Authority and Parker County Health Authority are participating.

Dallas County is not yet included.

“We don’t want to recreate and start a whole new list, because we still have a lot of people who have signed and been waiting on our list,” Dr. Philip Huang, director of County Health Services, said Monday.

Most providers have their own registration site and waiting list. As a result, many people have put their name in different places and taken the first available date.

This process has put those without transportation or internet at a disadvantage. And also to cancellations or people who do not attend appointments.

About 3.8 million Texans have already been fully vaccinated, or 17% of eligible people.
