They counted 1.1 million visits to national parks in January – Diario La Página – 2024-02-15 08:31:25

Government statistics counted 1.1 million local and foreign visitors to the tourist parks, cultural sites and protected natural areas of the Salvadoran territory.

These data indicated that the total number of visitors represents 14% more than what was recorded in January 2023, when they totaled 948,000 visits to different public places.

The latest report from the Salvadoran Tourism Institute (ISTU) indicated that, last month alone, the 15 parks under its administration received 203,409 people.

The institution’s report details that among the main destinations preferred by locals and foreigners are the Puerta del Diablo Natural Park, in San Salvador, with 97,680 visitors; It is followed by the Balboa Natural Park, with 58,844 people who visited the place.

The ISTU also reported that the Apulo Recreational Park, in Ilopango, was positioned as the third most visited destination, with 46,885 visitors; followed by the Amapulapa Recreational Park, in San Vicente, with 39,663; and the Cerro Verde Natural Park, in Santa Ana, with 37,480 visitors in January 2024.

Currently, the ISTU manages recreational parks, including aquatic, natural and amusement parks, which it makes available to national and international visitors.

To continue this quality service, the president of ISTU, Eny Aguiñada, reported that some will be remodeled this year.

This year, the institution has allocated $3.6 million for the remodeling work of the Costa del Sol Recreational Park, in La Paz, and will soon begin work on the Altos de la Cueva Recreational Park, in San Miguel.

On the other hand, Aguiñada said that during 2023 the network of parks managed by ISTU, protected natural areas and archaeological sites, among others, received 10.3 million visitors, which represented 56% compared to the previous year.
