The Municipality is evaluating whether to follow up on the Parks Department’s request to create two stations where food delivery drivers can rest and recharge their bicycles.
The stations would be one in the Upper West Side of Manhattan and the other in the Bronx.
There is an already licensed station in Manhattan that was announced a few months ago by Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer and Mayor Eric Adams. The plan is to transform the empty newsstands into workstations for the so-called “deliveristas”. Schumer promised there would be help from federal funds to set up charging stations for phones and e-bikes.
The Workers Justice organization recalled the announcement of the Manhattan station a few days ago in a message on social networks.
“The big moment in 2022 was the announcement of the first Deliveristas Hub in partnership with @SenSchumer + @NYCMayor ✊🏾❤️
“A big step towards building new infrastructure for #Deliveristas.
“Before the end of the year, we wanted to thank everyone who carried our work forward,” the message reads.

The two additional stations would be located in Verdi Square between West 72nd Street and Broadway and the other in Rose Hill Park in the Bronx, across from Fordham University and a Metro-North station.
