The station network of the Cuban National Seismological Service has recorded an earthquake reported as perceptible southwest of Trinidad, in the province of Santi Spíritus.

The network of stations of the Cuban National Seismological Service has recorded an earthquake reported as perceptible at 11:23 pm, located at the coordinates 21.68 degrees north latitude and –79.98 degrees west longitude.
It had a depth of 10.0 km and a magnitude of 3.0, and was located 28 km southwest of Trinidad in the province of Santi Spíritus.
So far, reports of perceptibility have been received in La Mesa, Manicaragua, and Cumanayagua.
At the time of reporting, no material or human damage has been reported. This is the perceptible earthquake No. 9 of the year 2023.
The Head of the Experimental Center for the Development of Social Communication (CDCOS) at the Escambray newspaper, José Fermín González Curiel, wrote that “the occurrence of these geological phenomena are more common in eastern Cuba given the presence of the Oriente fault that is found along the southeast coast of the island, however, no place on our island is exempt from suffering them ”.
“A few years ago in Varadero there was a noticeable movement that scared many people, they say that in Cuba it can happen anywhere and many think it is only in the eastern part,” responded a user.
EARTHQUAKES IN CUBA
According to CENAIS, in the last few hours a total of 13 earthquakes have been recorded, in the magnitude range of 1.2 and 3.0.
The most recent significant earthquake in Cuba occurred in January 2020, 123.6 km west-southwest of Cabo Cruz in the province of Granma and reports of perceptibility were received from across the country.
In the event of an earthquake, it is recommended to activate the emergency plan. When the movement ends, people must be evacuated promptly and in order from the school, home, or workplace, not using the elevators, but the stairs and not walking barefoot.
