/ world today news/ The European Court in Luxembourg categorized as discrimination the decision of the Bulgarian subsidiary of CEZ in the Roma quarter of Dupnitsa to place the electricity meters at a higher height than the other electricity meters in other areas.
The EU Court considered that such a procedure was discrimination based on ethnicity, although it was proven that in these areas there was more frequent manipulation of electricity meters or their damage.
According to CEZ spokeswoman Barbora Pulpanova, the electricity meters at the “discriminatory” height were installed even before the Czech company entered the Bulgarian market.
“The reason for setting this height is to protect the health and lives of people who have often handled the appliances in the wrong way,” explained the spokeswoman.
She announced that the court’s decision does not represent a punishment, but is only an answer to a question of a Bulgarian court, which is dealing with the given situation on the complaint of a woman.
