The governor of the Nikolaev region, Vitaly Kim, announced on his channel in “Telegram” that the local authorities plan to completely shut down the city of Nikolaev for several days in the near future to identify and neutralize “all collaborators and traitors”the BBC Russian service quoted him as saying.
In the past two days, he said, the administration has received nearly 20 letters of information about people who may be cooperating with Russia.
We recall that yesterday he announced a reward in the amount of 100 dollars (3000 hryvnias) for anyone to help identify the individuals directing the Russian artillery strikes among the residents of Nikolaev. According to Kim these helpers receive “some kopecks” – 1000-1500 hryvnias for his cooperation with Russia..
The authorities treat such information with complete seriousness, since the shelling of Nikolaev apparently being done by correcting enemy fire, the administration believes.
Kim said authorities plan to work with the military to check the addresses of all the suspects.
The exact date of the city’s closure will be announced in advance so residents can stock up on food and water and plan their actions, Kim assured.
The mayor of Nikolaev, Alexander Senkevich, said that the air defense forces of the city and the region were unable to cope with the shelling.
“The city has been shelled every day for several weeks. That means it’s better to leave the city, to run away,” he said.
Earlier, Senkevich said that during yesterday’s bombardment of Nikolaev, Russian troops used cluster munitions.
Authorities in Ukrainian regions regularly report such incidents, but Russia denies using cluster bombs.
