They closed a large supermarket in Plovdiv because of cockroaches

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BAH) is reporting itself in connection with a publication in the media about the presence of a cockroach in the warm window of a large supermarket in Plovdiv. An inspection was carried out by the inspectors from the “Food Control and Border Control” department at the Regional Directorate for Food Safety (ODBH) Plovdiv in the supermarket, as well as in the company’s culinary products production facility.

During the inspection in the store, it was found that there was a cockroach in the warm display case where ready-made foods are stored. The problem has also been identified by the company. Emergency disinsection measures have been taken. The supermarket was treated against insects on 24, 27 and 29.01.2023.

During a subsequent inspection, it was found that the measures taken are not fully effective at the moment, which is why an order was prepared and served to stop the activity of roasting meat cuts and blanks on site, and storage and sale of ready-made foods in the supermarket.

At the site for the production of culinary products of the company, at the time of the inspection, it was established that there were dead cockroaches outside the production premises and in the room for the preparation of hot foods. Emergency disinsection measures have also been taken there. The site was treated against insects on 09.01.2023, and subsequently on 24, 27 and 29.01.2023. Due to the fact that the additional measures taken were also not fully effective, an order was drawn up and served to stop the activity of preparing hot food in this facility as well.

A thorough cleaning and disinfection of both the supermarket and the company’s culinary products production site was carried out. The managers of the store and the production site have prepared protocols for the presence of partial repair activities. Measures have been taken to change the company that performs disinsection and deratization.
