They clean the vandalized statue of George Floyd in Brooklyn to move it to another place – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – The statue of George Floyd that was vandalized in Brooklyn and will now be transported to Union Square in Manhattan is cleaned up.

The artwork was unveiled the holiday of June 16 in a place of Flatbush Avenue in brooklyn. Five days later, on June 24, it was smashed with black paint and branded with the logo of a white supremacist group.

But members of the group that installed the statue thoroughly cleaned it, and local residents and one of Floyd’s brothers gathered around her this week to visit her before she moved to Union Square as part of an exhibition in September.

“I heard the news about the vandalism. He was so proud that he was in Flatbush. They really supported us, they looked for the statue, they looked for the spirit of my brother, ”Terrence Floyd said at the meeting. He added to reporters: “They are trying to stop us, but they cannot stop us. And we are still going to carry on, with love.”

Andrew Cohen de Confront Art, the group behind the statue, said people spent hours cleaning the paint with toothbrushes and hands.

“The only method that worked was really, really putting your elbow into it,” he said.

The statue will return to a study on Monday for further cleaning.

No arrests have been made for the acts of vandalism.
