Around the publication of the printed edition dated January 16, 2021 with the title “They assassinate a controversial lawyer in Pdte. Franco ”, the relatives contacted our regional office to clarify that the lawyer Lisboa did not record a judicial conviction for human trafficking in 2016.
In the records of the Judiciary, the deceased lawyer appeared as the defender of his colleague Crispín Villalba, who was sentenced to six years in prison for human trafficking.
In life the lawyer Lisbon divided opinions. For some, he was a controversial lawyer who used verbal and even physical attacks as a tool. While for others he was a passionate defender of the rights of his clients and a whistleblower of corruption in the Judiciary and other public institutions.
Before becoming a lawyer, Lisbon gained national notoriety shortly after the advent of the democratic era. In December 89, the then union leader became a hero of the Itaipu workers with the achievement of several labor demands in the Binational, after a massive strike and tenacious resistance to the Government that even cost the life of a protester.
The crime
Efigenio Lisboa was assassinated on January 15 in the area of a laundry called San Sebastián, located in the neighborhood of the same name of Presidente Franco. Three or four men who arrived aboard a silver-colored Toyota Allion vehicle, without a license plate, were accused of being alleged perpetrators, from which a subject descended, who first had a brief conversation with the victim, and then shot him with a 9mm pistol.

After falling seriously injured, the victim was helped and taken by neighbors to the Presidente Franco District Hospital, where the doctors tried to revive her, but without success.
A prosecution team, made up of Denice Duarte, Viviana Sánchez and Zunilda Ocampos, was formed to investigate the crime. More than a month after the fact, the killers have not yet been identified.
