Within hours of the final count of the votes from last Sunday’s election, La Plata Peronism maintains that Julio Alak’s victory over the current mayor, Julio Garro, was 1,409 votes.
The number arises from the comparison of the partial results uploaded by the Ministry of the Interior of the Nation and the minutes that The party prosecutors provided the data of the 44 tables that remain to be computed to know the final numbers.
While Garro continues to maintain that the final count will give him victory to continue four more years at the head of the capital municipality, the representatives of Unión por la Patria released a statement in which They affirm that the final result will be 166,870 votes for Alak, against 165,461 for Garro.
“The result of the election for the position of Mayor in the city of La Plata computed by the Ministry of the Interior of the Nation and published by Correo Argentino on the “Elections 2023” page, with 97.56% of the ballot boxes having been counted, clearly awards the victory to the candidate Julio Alak of Unión por la Patria by 856 votes,” the statement begins by saying that it recognizes as valid the updated upload on the official page that was posted when the Minister of Justice and Human Rights added 162,268 votes and the mayor of the PRO in 161,412.
“Having added to said scrutiny the 44 tables that have not yet been counted by the Argentine Mail, and according to the minutes in the possession of the table presidents and prosecutors of all political forces, the advantage of Julio Alak of Unión for the Homeland over Julio Garro of Juntos por el Cambo, it was expanded to 1,409 votes,” says the statement, which also states that “the number of appealed and contested votes does not alter the final victory.”
The Buenos Aires Electoral Justice will begin the scrutiny of 44 ballot boxes that will define the next mayor, while Peronism hopes that the definition will not go beyond Mondayfor when to expect to be able to celebrate the triumph that they have been predicting since Sunday night.
