The National Assembly extended its working hours in order to consider and introduce an amendment to the BNB Law. The proposal was submitted by GERB and DPS – Yordan Tsonev, Anna Alexandrova, Temenuzka Petkova and Hamid Hamid. A surprise parliamentary legal committee and a last-minute floor clause changed the law. And they already give the right to the managements of the BNB, the Audit Chamber and the Ombudsman to hold a position as acting prime minister, BNT specified.

According to the changes, the governor and deputy governors of the BNB and the Audit Chamber can take unpaid annual leave if they are elected acting prime minister. After their release, they will be able to continue the mandate for which they were elected.
Apart from the possible duties of an acting prime minister, the heads of the bank will not be able to perform any other paid activity, except for teaching or to be members of the bodies of companies in which the BNB has a stake.
Deputies accepted the changes in the first reading with 137 votes in favour. They suggest that the second reading be passed immediately.
The changes are necessary because of the mess with the constitutional changes, in which it turned out that the special laws for the BNB, the Audit Chamber and the Ombudsman do not allow the holders of these positions and their deputies to hold other positions.
From “Vazrazhdane” and “There is such a people” defined these texts as unconstitutional. Moreover, they consider it absolutely inadmissible to enter the hall in this urgent manner, which violates the rules of procedure of the parliament.
