With a Thanksgiving mass celebrated in the Santo Niño de la Paz parish in Mexico City, EL UNIVERSAL commemorated the 105th anniversary of its foundation yesterday.
The Executive President and of the Board of Directors of El Gran Diario de México, Juan Francisco Ealy Ortiz, and his family, listened to the mass officiated by the priest Alberto Vázquez Andonaegui, which was carried out in accordance with all sanitary measures for the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the end of the homily, Mr. Juan Francisco Ealy Ortiz gave priest Vázquez Andonaegui the printed version of EL UNIVERSAL on Friday.
The priest read the heading of the message that the Executive President and the Board of Directors of El Gran Diario de México offered on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of this newspaper.
“Here, Mr. Juan Francisco [Ealy Ortiz] put a message in the newspaper and I invite you all to read it.
“The headline says: ‘Dialogue and unity should be privileged to leave behind the tirade, the insult: Ealy Ortiz.’ May God bless you for this newspaper, congratulations!
Earlier, Father Vázquez Andonaegui highlighted the work that all the collaborators of this publishing house have done, from the cleaning worker to the one with the highest and most important position. They have carried out for more than a century the noble task of journalism that, the priest assured, serves society by seeking the truth.
“We are going to thank God for 105 years since this project began, and that by God and you it has become a reality,” he said, while asking to protect the great family of EL UNIVERSAL to continue on the long path that began more than a century ago.
At the liturgy, the priest invited us to reflect on the difficult times that humanity and the country are going through, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, and to learn from bad experiences, always helping those who need it most.
“You are all a family and continue as a family, may God allow us to celebrate more years; for you and all those who work in this newspaper ”, Vázquez Andonaegui ordered.
In addition to EL UNIVERSAL executives, editorial staff, workers and friends of this newspaper, political figures attended.
Among them, the former Secretary of National Defense, General Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda; the retired Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) Margarita Luna Ramos and Senator Eruviel Ávila Villegas (PRI). The former governor of Yucatán Ivonne Ortega Pacheco; the ex-president of Hidalgo Francisco Olvera Ruiz and the ex-secretary of Capital Security Joel Ortega Cuevas.
At the end of the mass, Fernando Zúñiga, Manager of Operations and Distribution of EL UNIVERSAL, offered a few words of thanks on behalf of the circulation, distribution, subscriptions, distribution and spokespersons team, who congratulated Mr. Juan Francisco Ealy; Mr. Juan Francisco Ealy Lanz-Duret, Executive Vice President and General Director of EL UNIVERSAL, and his family.
Zúñiga said that during the 28 years that he has collaborated in this newspaper, he has witnessed the leadership, warmth and sensitivity with which he has addressed El Gran Diario de México, as well as the example of the unity and strength of the work team. For her part, Angélica Navarrete, coordinator of the Photographic Archive and Archive, highlighted that in 2021 the shield of EL UNIVERSAL, an eagle, will be 100 years old since it appeared on April 16, 1921.
“He could not choose the best emblem, because this ideal of progress is preserved and, in adverse times, EL UNIVERSAL has always succeeded,” he mentioned.
Óscar González, advisor to Mr. Juan Francisco Ealy Ortiz, highlighted the work that the Executive President and the Board of Directors have done in directing the Gran Diario de México for 52 years, a communication medium open to all ideological currents. “Difficult work, but today we see your achievement accomplished,” he said.
Centennial trajectory
Luna Ramos, Ortega Pacheco, Ávila Villegas, Ortega Cuevas and Olvera Ruiz agreed that EL UNIVERSAL, with more than a century of life, is a benchmark as a national and international means of communication.
They pointed out that the Gran Diario de México has been a plural space, under the leadership of Mr. Juan Francisco Ealy Ortiz for more than 50 years.
