They capture the first image of a solar system similar to ours

A group of astronomers working in the Paranal observatory in Chile, captured the first image of a multi-planet system around a Sun-like star.

This is the first time that a solar system similar to ours has been visualized, with multiple exoplanets.

Scientists explained that the star is a “very young version of our own Sun”, because it is about 17 million years old, compared to 4.6 million ours.

This discovery is a snapshot of an environment that is very similar to our Solar System, but at a much earlier stage in its evolution.“explained Alexander Bohn, a doctoral student at Leiden University in the Netherlands and lead author of the study published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

The planetary system is known as TYC 8998-760-1, and is located about 300 light-years away from Earth.

The image was created by the team using the SPHERE of the Very Large Telescope, a device capable of blocking bright light from stars to detect much fainter planets orbiting them.

Astronomers believe that thanks to this finding, the process of formation of the planets in our Solar System will be better understood and studied.
