The Civil national police (PNC) reported on the arrest of Rony Ramos Vega, accused of looting luxurious residences on the highway to El Salvador.

The arrest was made effective this Monday at the defendant’s residence in zone 1 of Guatemala City. This was indicated after actions by the Specialized Criminal Investigation Division (DEIC).

In fact, Ramos is accused of directing an entire organized gang to commit this type of crime against the heritage of Guatemalans, known as Los Barrancos.

The detainee is accused of the crime of sacrilegious acts in the form of theft.

Modality of “Los Barrancos”

According to the police report, Ramos operated by entering luxury residential areas through ravines in the area of ​​the highway to El Salvador. Subsequently, he invaded the houses and took valuables such as works of art.

In addition, the case file highlights the theft of the colonial work “La oración del huerto”, stolen on February 5, 2014 in the El Calvario church, in Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez. Among other historical possessions.

The investigation indicates that the detainee sells the pieces in his relics shop, for which his residence in Antigua Guatemala was previously raided.

Background

The defendant was already being pursued by the courts and on this day the arrest was finally achieved. Authorities had already proceeded to search for him in operations carried out on January 11 and 18, as well as on April 3, all this year.

For its location, raids were previously carried out inside the San Luis residential area, Santa Catarina Pinula, Guatemala, residence of the Ramos Medina family.

On those occasions, several pieces of art from colonial times were located, including the aforementioned painting.

On this occasion, the police entity demonstrates the continuity of the investigations and the commitment to the public for security and to carry out the arrests. Today Ramos was arrested and he will have to justify his possession of the works of art before the justice system.
