During an operation in Mexico, authorities destroyed a criminal network in the state of Quintana Roo, capturing 17 people, 15 of whom are Colombian nationals. According to a statement from the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Quintana Roo, the detainees were involved in the sale of drugs at retail and in the offer of illegal loans known as “gota a gota”, a system that including daily accumulation under risks. .

The operation was carried out in the town of Benito Juárez, where authorities carried out inspections in three buildings on Saturday night, November 9. In the first raid, located on Retiro Cerrada los Frailes street in the Gran Santa Fe III subdivision, 16 motorcycles and various psychoactive substances were seized. In this place, 12 men and three women of Colombian origin were arrested nearby.

The 15 Colombians who, according to the State Prosecutor’s Office, worked independently in the sale of drugs and the offer of money loans under the “drop by drop” scheme, were identified as: Richard David, Jovany, Jhon Alejandro, Jorge Alexis, José Julián, Deiner Fabián, Efrén Camilo, Carlos Andrés, Oscar David, Juan Carlos, Luis Alfonso, Lino Ramón, Isabel Cristina, Mónica Yanet and Isabel.

In the other two operations, authorities also found drugs and arrested two additional men. The last investigation was carried out at a home on Andrés Quintana Roo Avenue, corner with 113th Street, in Supermanzana 95, where several doses of what could be marijuana and glass were found.

The three seized properties were sent to the Public Ministry, and the detainees were transferred to the public ministry to determine their legal status. Elements from the Secretaries of the Navy (Semar), National Defense (Sedena), Security and Protection of Citizens (SSyPC), as well as personnel from the National Guard and the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office participated in these operations. Although the Colombians operated independently, several criminal groups were reported to be present in the state, such as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the Sinaloa Cartel, the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas. according to the 2024 Peace Index of the Institute for Economics and Peace.

On the other hand, in a recent operation in Oaxaca, Mexico, authorities rescued 71 migrants who were being held in a home in the Isthmus region. According to the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Oaxaca (Fgeo), 19 young people were among the migrants. As a result of the operation, two people were arrested, who, according to the statement, were monitoring the migrants and calling their relatives asking for money for their release.

The Fgeo said the rescued migrants came from different countries: 32 from Ecuador, 25 from Venezuela, seven from Colombia, one from Chile, three from Honduras, one from El Salvador, one from Peru and one from the African continent. All of them had reportedly lost their freedom.

The detainees, a 36-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, both of foreign origin, were brought before the relevant authority to determine their legal status. During the journey, migrants face dangerous movements or remain hidden, and they pay thousands of dollars to human traffickers.
