They called it the clear dinner diet, the secrets of intermittent fasting that makes you lose weight

The dinner canceling diet (or diet canceling dinner) is a diet that is part of the intermittent fasting patterns and recently gained prominence thanks to the showman Fiorello, who declared that he had lost several kilos thanks to this diet. So let’s find out what the dinner canceling diet consists of, what are its benefits and if it is effective even in the long term.

What is dinner canceling?

Dinner canceling is a diet that is part of the intermittent fasting patterns and that follows the 16-8 pattern, ie 16 hours without eating and 8 in which you eat normally, avoiding however the excesses of “recovery”. Consequently, the last meal will be consumed at 17, preceded by a light snack that helps not to suffer from hunger in the evening, so as to allow a certain number of hours (at least 2 or 3) to pass between the last meal of the day and night rest. In addition, non-calorie drinks such as water and herbal teas, without any added sugar, sweetener or milk, are allowed during the fasting hours, to be drunk before the sensation of hunger occurs.

This diet was conceived by the German nutritionist Dieter Grabbe and can be repeated for 2/3 days a week or following a moderate fast for two weeks, and then add a more stringent regime; according to Grabbe, however, the benefits can still be obtained even by following a single diet day a week. Furthermore, dinner canceling would allow you to lose 5/6 kilos in 15 days and can be repeated for several months or even for a year, in order to stabilize your weight.

The benefits

According to the creator of the dinner canceling, the benefits that would result from this diet are numerous. Among the most important are: increased concentration and energy, loss of weight and body fat, reduction of blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol values, increase in insulin sensitivity, prevention of Alzheimer’s disease, increase in lifespan by reducing aging processes, reduction of inflammatory processes and improvement of sleep quality.

Contraindications

Dinner canceling is not a health-threatening diet, as it only requires a few hours of fasting. However, intermittent fasting is highly discouraged for pregnant or breastfeeding women, people who are underweight, people who are ill, people with eating disorders, and children until the end of the growth curve. Furthermore, it is good to keep in mind that dinner canceling should not be considered as a miraculous diet that makes you lose weight without physical activity, but an additional tool that would enhance the positive effects of a healthy lifestyle.

The long-term effects

In the immediate future, dinner canceling allows you to lose weight as it induces the body to seek the necessary nutrients not from ingested food but from reserves. However, this type of diet requires a lot of discipline: hunger pangs are extremely likely, as are sleep disturbances, because hunger can make the night more agitated. Moreover, especially in a Mediterranean country like ours, skipping dinner could be an unsustainable practice for a long time: meals, in fact, must also have to do with conviviality and sociality, as well as with health, or they risk transform into a therapy of sacrifice, destined to fail in the long run.
