They call for protests in New York against Trump while the count continues

New York, Nov 4 (EFE) .- A dozen protests to show rejection of the president and electoral candidate Donald Trump have been called in New York for this Wednesday, while the Police maintain their presence in downtown Manhattan.

Up to nine demonstrations with slogans such as “Reject fascism” or “Let’s not let Trump steal the elections” have been called for today starting at 3:00 pm local time (8:00 pm GMT) in the boroughs of Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

These calls, carried out by left-wing groups that also led the anti-racist mobilizations and against police brutality last May and June, take place while the count continues in 5 of the 50 states of the country, on which the final result of the elections depends. that Trump and the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, are at stake.

These states – Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada – have warned they will need more hours and even days to count all ballots, due in part to increased mail-in voting volume in the wake of the pandemic.

In addition, the final results for Congress are still unknown, although Republicans appear to have saved the Senate and reduced their disadvantage in the Lower House contrary to what the polls predicted, which gave Democrats full control of the Legislature.

In the commercial 5th avenue of Manhattan, in New York, most of the stores were still armored with wooden panels protecting their windows for fear of riots.

The street is fenced in many of its sectors in which groups of police are visible, especially at the height of Trump Tower, which for years was the president’s main residence, before he moved it to Florida.

New York Police Commissioner Dermot Shea warned Tuesday that there will be “zero tolerance” by his agents for possible riots in the Big Apple after the closure of polling stations and the arrival of the first results.

For his part, the head of the New York Police Department, Terence Monahan, in his last intervention insisted that there will be thousands of agents on the ground to allow peaceful demonstrations but willing to act with “anyone who wants to act violently and destructively.” EFE
