As a result of detailed investigative work, police personnel from the Economic Crimes Department carried out a police operation today that allowed the removal of a criminal network dedicated to committing fraud through the technique known as “carding“. As a result of the procedure, five people in different homes in the town were delayed.

The investigation began after a complaint from Banco Provincia del Neuquén (BPN), which discovered fraudulent transactions with credit and debit cards that were destroyed, blocked or lost. Those involved were operating portable payment devices (MPOS) to simulate purchases on virtual wallet platforms, transferring money to linked accounts.

During the raid, it was possible to seize 87 POSNET and MPOS terminals, 852 bank cards, 63 remaining cards, 9 cell phones, 100 SIM cards, 8 victim ID cards, 2 Wi-Fi routers, 2 UHF equipment, 1 external disk, 1 notebook and 1 CPU. Material considered very valuable for the case.

The criminal move was to use illegally obtained cards to show legitimate transactions, to the detriment of the owners of the affected accounts. The investigators managed to find the devices involved and establish links between the suspects, who lived in the same area.

The operation was led by the Economic Crimes Division with the cooperation of several Units, including Economic Cyber Crime, Car Theft, Crimes against Property and Special Laws, Personal Security, and the Children, Youth and Family Police Station.
