Authorities are investigating an arson attack that damaged the beauty salon of a Cuban couple. The location was to open in the city of Miami in May, but this will no longer be possible.
According to local media América TeVé, it is estimated that the facilities suffered damage valued at around $45,000.
A security video managed to capture the moment in which two people approached the place during the early hours of Thursday, April 18. One of them inspected the glass of the beauty salon before leaving.
Shortly after, he returned with a rock and what appears to be a container of gasoline. This ended up breaking the glass and pouring the liquid into the premises to start the fire.
A person who worked in a nearby business noticed the fire and ended up calling the firefighters and the owners of the premises.
“We ran as soon as we received the news. We have a four-year-old girl and we had to wake her up and we went out with her. When we arrived, the firefighters had already put out the entire fire,” Indira Ortega, owner of the burned business, told the aforementioned local media.
The couple reviewed the security footage, so they think they already know who was responsible for this incident, information they gave to the police.
“The police have not given us many answers. We told him who we think it could have been. At the moment he is a suspect, nothing concrete. “They are doing all the investigation,” added the Cuban.
The salon is called The Grand Lash House, and is located at 97th Avenue and 40th Street in southwest Miami-Dade County. The damage caused by the flames represents a great loss for the couple, who invested a large amount of time, effort and money to fulfill the dream of the woman, who wanted to have her own nail shop.
The husband, identified as Alejandro Ortega, indicated that the ceiling was one of the parts most affected by the accident, while the walls and floor also ended up with obvious black marks.
“We have a lot of work left to do,” said Ortega, assuring that they were going to make an effort to leave the beauty salon like new before opening it.
However, this will be more difficult than they expected, since the insurance was not going to cover the damage caused by the fire, this is because this was effective until May 5, the date on which the opening of the premises was scheduled. .
“We didn’t think it was appropriate to put insurance on it before because what can you imagine that you haven’t opened and something could happen inside your premises,” lamented the Cuban.
Family and friends arrived at the location in the following days to help clean and collect the damage caused by the fire. Likewise, they started a campaign on the platform GoFundMe to repair the damage caused by the accident.
“We have to stick with the same opening date because we are not going to give the pleasure to those who came to destroy my business to prevent that from happening, and we want it to be the same date,” the woman concluded.
