The couple Tim (58) and Ryan (53) bought the main building of the station with a waiting room for 12 million crowns. The building is listed on the list of historical and cultural monuments II. level and dates back to the Victorian era. As reported by the Reuters group, the new owners understood the meaning of the station’s music only later.
The building features in an image used on the cover of British rock group Oasis’ 1995 single Some Might Say. In the image, Liam Gallagher is seen swinging from a railway bridge while his brother Noel stands by on the platform and blasting the tracks below from a small kettle.
“I’m an Oasis fan but we had no idea of the connection until we bought the place. In the dining room, there was a picture frame with a Some Might Say cover on the wall. I asked Ryan what he was doing here. So we started looking and soon it appeared to us. The guy selling it to us never mentioned it, but he must have known because he had the picture, said Tim, who works in digital services for the government.

The couple bought the station back in 2007 and began renovating their premises two years later. “When we bought it, it was derelict and the building was in danger of collapsing. The building was on the ‘at risk’ list. It was just a bare shell. There was no glass in the windows, there were holes in the roof, there was nothing inside, just an empty shell,” said Tim.
The entire renovation took about a year and cost about 4.2 million kroner. The owners then received a grant of 900,000 crowns from the local authority. It was also possible to involve a number of charitable organizations in the restoration of the railway station. Thanks to their efforts, some historical elements, such as the clock tower, were restored to their original form.
They are also looking for a wheelbarrow
The owners have now rented the station, not forgetting to mention the link with the Oasis group in the description of their holiday property. And so the fans just throw to them. If they don’t rent the station for the night, at least they take selfies in front of it. Some go so far as to look for a wheelbarrow (which is also part of the cover). They also have the opportunity to get a loan on the spot.
“Our demographic usually looks at trains, pedestrians and cyclists. Because we only have one bedroom, it’s usually older or younger couples,” explains Tim.
Although the old Cromford station main building on the east side is now mainly a destination for tourists and Oasis fans, the west side of the station still serves its purpose and is used with passengers heading to Matlock or Derby by train.
