The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) recognized that one of the challenges to increase productivity in the agri-food sector is in plant innovation, through the improvement of seeds.
Víctor Villalobos Arámbula, head of the agency, pointed out that “reduce the use of chemical products to combat pests, improve the conservation and use of phytogenetic and natural resources such as soil and water, with plants that demand less water resources, have cycles shorter, and make efficient use of soil nutrients to reduce chemical fertilization, among others ”, are essential actions for the Mexican countryside.
Already in 2020, a national seed program was developed, through which it is intended that producers have better inputs. In the case of Durango, this project was activated in municipalities such as Poanas and Guadalupe Victoria, with the improvement of bean seed.
Seed production strengthens the first link in the production chain of the vast majority of foods, thereby contributing to the food security of Mexicans, and strengthening food export chains for the world.
