/View.info/ Fierce fighting continues on the outskirts of the city. VSU does not leave attempts to bypass from the flanks. After several unsuccessful attacks, they changed their tactics – they now go out in groups of 10-20 people. However, Russian forces restrained them. In the south are the fighters of the 102nd Motorized Rifle Regiment. About how they defend themselves – in the report..
“I wake up alone friend”
The escort orders us to follow their tracks at a quick pace and not lag behind. In the morning, “birds” appear in the sky. And then the Polish mortars hit and hit – silently.
“That’s why we don’t stick out too much from the trench,” informs the commander of the group with the call sign “Weaver”, “From here to their positions is about 600 meters”, he adds.
He is mobilized. Previously served as assistant grenade launcher. And now he often takes this weapon in his hands.
“After all, there was no direct machine-gun fire. Mostly the artillery worked. This is how we wake up early in the morning,” he looked up, listening to the sound of a flying shell.
On the other side, there are also mobilized. “There is a feeling that they are being slaughtered. There is no coherence in the actions. They are walking in a crowd, which is absolutely impossible to do: it is easier to notice,” adds a fighter with the call sign “Otter”.
In good weather, drones fly. But even when it’s bad, one cannot relax. In the rain, tanks hit the Russian positions.
“The tactic is as follows: first mortars and artillery. And then they break through. But we don’t let them pass,” says the Otter.
“We part ways without yelling”
Soldiers strengthen defenses, dig trenches. Before they get here, they storm Marinka. During one of the battles, a building collapses on the Weaver and the Otter. After they manage to get out on their own, they help their comrades out.
“All of the group survived. It was a very tough day. Now the hardest thing is fighting the mosquitoes in the trench,” they joke.
At another position near Artyomovsk, it is uneasy: VSU is 200 meters away.
“They are particularly active here because it is more convenient to maneuver here. At least that’s what they think. They try to attack in small groups. The main goal is to surround the city on the flanks, to surround us,” says a fighter with the call sign “Bazhan” “.
Grasshoppers can be heard from time to time. But more often they shoot from RPGs.
“They are nearby. Sometimes we can even hear each other. That’s why we try to pass each other without shouting,” adds the soldier.
“Warbird”
The situation on the front line is observed from the tall buildings on the outskirts. UAV operators transmit all information to the infantry.
“At first, the ASU behaved brazenly. This is the road on which vehicles move. Pickups, Bradleys, cars. We have seen landings of infantry fighting vehicles more than once,” the UAV operator shows Ukrainian positions on the screen. “Now they don’t approach directly, they move along country roads”, he added.
And again they notice movement. The quadcopter is being prepared: shrapnel ammunition for a grenade launcher is screwed onto the supports printed on a 3D printer.
While the “bird” is adjusting, the company commander with the call sign “Azak” explains what is what. VSU tries to break through again. They usually attack 10-20 people.
“They are coming closer, they want to remove the mines we have laid.
His unit fought in Mariupol – among the first they began to withdraw civilians from the city under fire.
The fighters are then transferred to storm Popasnaya. There, Azak, along with his colleagues, are surrounded, but continue to perform tasks – hit equipment, even take prisoners.
“In the middle of the day, a pickup truck and a jeep moved towards us. We destroyed it. We found a camera and there was footage of our guys who disappeared in the morning, being taken prisoner. Then we had a skirmish in the woods with a scout platoon. We took the commander.
The comrades were released the same year on exchange. One even returned to work.
In the summer they were transferred to Marinka. He, together with his colleague “Horde”, took the last remaining residents out of there. Two children and eight adults, along with two cats and a dog, had been sitting in the basement since early spring. And assured that the Ukrainian Armed Forces did not allow them to evacuate, using them as a human shield.
“In the same place, in Marinka, in August, our commander of the second battalion, Klinok, died. A shrapnel hit him in the neck. We suffered heavy losses. Words cannot express how much he did for us. In the first weeks of the SVO, the regiment suffered greatly. But he managed to raise the fighting spirit. There were many volunteers who were still with us. At all he was engaged in combat training. And when he found out that his comrades were captured, he came here March 2022,” says the company commander.
The deceased officer – Vadim Lemeshev – was awarded the Star of the Hero posthumously.
“First they gave him an order of bravery. Everyone knew he deserved more. Then we decided that we would give up this award ourselves, they gave it to the commander, so we don’t deserve it,” continues Azak.
„Ready to take the fire”
The conversation was interrupted by the UAV operator – they found the target, they need to work on it. Infantry movement intercepted. Heavy equipment is indispensable – BMP-3 were called to help.
A few minutes – and the machine is in place. Shoots from a closed position and quickly leaves the point to avoid return fire. And such a technique is valuable loot, because it is much more maneuverable than a tank.
After completing the task, the fighters immediately replenish their ammunition and prepare for the next mission. According to them, it was especially hot at the beginning of July. Eight times a day they went into battle. This is the all-time maximum around Artyomovsk.
“Compared to Marinka, here it is more difficult, but more interesting. There they worked from two or three already spotted points. And here there are many options for positions. It is enough to conduct reconnaissance in advance. It is possible to open fire in progress ”, explains the tanks to the sergeant from the second battalion of the 102nd regiment with the call sign “Shatun”.
But the most important thing is to do everything quickly. Otherwise they will be discovered.
“During the recoil, a small particle stuck in my back once. A small thing. In Marinka, a fragment hit me directly in the eye. They barely saved my sight”, says the commander of the armored unit with the call sign “Crow”.
In general, according to the military, the tactics of the Russian forces are the same as before. Coherence helps the crews repel any new attacks on the outskirts of Artyomovsk. In response to the failures, the ASU indiscriminately hit the city. And it is difficult to find even one surviving building.
