The National Confederation of Salvadoran Workers (CNTS) and the Union Federation of Municipal Workers of El Salvador (FESITRAMES) demanded that the Minister of Labor, Rolando Castro, fulfill his promise to protect the rights of approximately 200 municipal employees dismissed without justification, among them union leaders.
According to Marcelo Santos, director of the Panchimalco commune union, freedom of association is not being respected in the mayor’s offices. In his case, he was notified that the position in which he worked would be eliminated, however, there is already another person occupying that position. position.
“There is a direct attack on freedom of association, there are more colleagues who have been fired from the mayor’s office of Panchimalco and other mayors’ offices, we demand that freedom of association be respected,” he said.
Since May 1, nearly 20 dismissed employees have been registered in the Ciudad Delgado mayor’s office, 23 in Cuscatancingo, 90 in San Marcos, 100 in Zacatecoluca, 11 in Panchimalco, as well as in Ayutuxtepeque, including union leaders.
