Lithium: Representative Tomás Lagomarsino will request that Máximo Pacheco and Minister Williams explain before the House Committee why SQM was chosen for the memorandum with Codelco
Deputy Tomás Lagomarsino (Ind-Radical) referred to the recent announcement of the historic memorandum between Codelco and SQM for the development of the lithium industry in a public-private alliance, questioning the choice of the company investigated for financing political activities.
In this regard, Deputy Lagomarsino announced that “we have learned about the agreement between SQM and Codelco in the last hour and I am going to request that both the president of the Codelco board of directors, Máximo Pacheco, be invited to the Chamber’s Mining Commission; such as the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams; in order for them to explain to us why SQM, a company that has been questioned in the past, was the best alternative to develop this agreement and not other companies, both national and international, that exploit lithium.”
The parliamentarian was emphatic in stating that “here we must be certain that the Chilean State, through Codelco, has made the best and most beneficial agreement for all Chileans.”
