The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexei Reznikov announced on Facebook that he had removed the head of one of the departments of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to world media.
A video has been posted on the Internet showing the Chief of General Staff firing in a residential area of Kyiv.
A source from the police said that on Friday the removed military man was involved in a traffic accident, and the events recorded in the video take place near the residential district “Skazka” in the capital Kyiv.
The footage shows a man in a military uniform arguing with the guards, threatening them with a gun and then shooting from the side.
According to the source, the shot nearly hit a child. The man in military uniform in the video looks like Yuri Bobrov, a colonel of justice, head of the legal department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – head of the legal service of VFU.
There is also a video of the detention of the member of the General Staff on the Internet.
Reznikov did not provide details about the incident, but wrote that he had ordered an internal investigation and the dismissal of the General Staff officer. According to the Minister of Defense, his actions contain not only signs of disciplinary but also criminal.
Lieutenant General Yevhen Moisyuk, deputy chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, has chaired the commission of inquiry.
According to Reznikov, if it is confirmed that the actions of the officer from the General Staff posed a risk to the life and health of a child, everything possible will be done to punish him fairly.
“Our soldiers hold the hordes of the enemy and give their lives to keep the children in peaceful cities as safe as possible during the war with Russia. When a man in a military position, with epaulets and wearing a uniform, uses his weapon in a residential area of the capital – a reaction will follow.
– If there were expectations of impunity – this is a mistake. I will announce the results of the investigation when it is over, “the minister said.
