They arrested a man who tried to enter Florida with 31 migrants from the Caribbean

The United States authorities arrested a man identified as Derek Campton, 43, who surprised him when he was traveling on a boat with 31 undocumented migrants headed for South Florida.

As a result, the detainee was charged with the smuggling of sea migrants by the federal court in Fort Lauderdale.

According to the media Local news 10Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Joshua Stanbery received information about a “suspicious” vessel heading toward the Orange State.

A team of federal agents went to the coordinates, but were unable to capture the boat. Fortunately for them, Miami-Dade County authorities accomplished this about two miles from Key Biscayne.

After talking to him, Campton introduced himself as the ship’s captain, and the officers found dozens of undocumented immigrants from Haiti and the Bahamas.

All passengers were taken into custody by the US Coast Guard (USCG), and Campton was taken to the US Border Patrol (USBP) station in Dania Beach.

There, after being questioned, the suspect admitted to illegally transporting more than 30 aliens to Florida after receiving compensation for his services.

The man admitted that he received the seized boat as payment for his human trafficking activities. In that sense, he agreed to stay on another boat in the Bahamas area, refusing any connection to the south of Florida.

After confessing, the subject was jailed in Broward County, while his case will be heard in the Southern District of Florida.

The judge who presided over $100,000 bail, although subject to certain requirements such as surrendering his passport, prohibited him from possessing firearms and prohibited from visiting transportation facilities.

In addition, he was asked to undergo GPS tracking, this as an additional security measure to prevent him from fleeing the territory.

People charged with human trafficking face up to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
