They are trapped in Kabul: ‘It’s a ghost town’

NOS Stories spoke today with 17-year-old Arzo, who went to Afghanistan a few weeks ago to visit family. Earlier this week, she and her family made an attempt to end up on an evacuation flight to the Netherlands, but failed. “I was beaten with a stick by the Americans.”

The situation in Kabul is very dangerous, says Arzo. “You don’t see people walking outside, especially women. There are all Taliban around our house. They watch who does something wrong, who does something right. They have their own rules for everything. This is the first time in my life that I see something like that. I’m completely in shock and traumatized by it.”
