Marián Studenič survived a turbulent season abroad last year. The fast forward played for four American teams. He initially moved between the Utica Comets farm in AHL and the New Jersey Devils first team in the NHL, but he didn’t stay long. In the second half of February, he was placed on the unprotected players list, from where he was taken from the Dallas Stars. There, better times began to dawn for him, but it didn’t last long.
MARIÁN STUDENIČ found himself for the second time this year on the list of exemptions for unprotected players
In addition to the Texas Stars reserve team, according to hypothesis, Studenič also appeared on the Dallas main team in the NHL. In 16 games of the 2021/22 regular season, he scored three points (1 + 2) despite the short time spent on the ice, and later added four duels in the playoffs. At the moment, though, Dallas doesn’t want the 23-year-old from Skalice either. This team has also put him on “waiver” and if none of the remaining 31 NHL clubs have expressed interest in him within 24 hours, he will likely go back to the lower AHL competition.
In the summer, the Skalicky native signed a two-way contract worth $ 750,000 with the “Stars,” which did not guarantee him participation in the NHL at the start of the season. He wanted to fight even harder for his chance than he did in the preparatory period. “Mentally, last season was my hardest. It will continue to touch me to confirm with my performances that I belong to the professional league. That’s why I’m getting ready for the new year “, Marián Studenič said in a July interview for our newspaper.
In the current preparation, however, he only appeared in two games, in which he did not score, but scored two more points. However, four days before the start of the new competitive year, he found himself among the unprotected players alongside fellow forward Riley Tuft and defender Aleksandar Petrovic. And this was also a surprise for the overseas experts who follow the events of the team that two years ago was a finalist in the Stanley Cup.
“Studenič can be seen at both ends of the ice surface. He falls, struggles, but is at the end of the roster for the NHL. We will see how everything will develop “. wrote Matthew DeFranks from The Dallas Morning News after the preseason game against St. Louis. He later added: “I see a slight surprise that Studenič has also been waived. I was expecting Tufte and Petrovic there.”
“I am also surprised that Marián Studenič has also given up. He performed solidly last season after being drafted by the Stars. Even now I saw him as a player for the fourth attack, or he could be ready as a thirteenth striker. “ mused Derek Neumeier, NHL’s deputy director of scouting for the western region. “Student in derogation? Maybe someone will catch him” Taylor, the editor of the Last Word on Sport website, pointed out on Twitter. In response, fan Simon Meikle said: “I’d rather see Faksa on the waivers than Studenič. For the money he took, he was definitely not a better player than Studenič with a salary of 750,000.
SLAFKOVSKÝ IN THE 18TH RANGE AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE
A few days before the start of the new season in the NHL, a bag of predictions of various kinds was ripped apart by the overseas media. The team of authors of The Sporting News did not stand aside and decided to reward the under 23 players who should dominate next season. They also included a Slovak in the top twenty. Juraj Slafkovský, the unit of the July draft, finished 18th in this prediction.
It should be added that only the oldest players were placed ahead of the 18-year-old native of Košice, because the editorial team chose mainly among those who had already played in the NHL and had not turned 23 before the start of the competition. They see 21-year-old New Jersey American striker Jack Hughes as a complete unit. German Detroit defender Moritz Seider is expected to be number two among the youngsters, and Jack’s older brother, Vancouver defender Quinn Hughes, should be number three.
And why did they also include Slafkovský in this ranking, who has not yet played a single minute in the NHL? “This guy made a big splash in the summer draft when the Canadiens took him over from Shane Wright and made him the number one pick. There is more to why Slafkovský is so interesting. He is portrayed as a powerful attacker, but he has extremely intelligent hands and an evil shot. It is true that he needs to work on his defensive and skating skills, but his offensive qualities could make him one of the most consistent winger in the NHL. “ written by Bryan Murphy.
