Extending the summer on the beaches of Sardinia is a dream of many holidaymakers, but the Czech leaders went to Italy to work. Thanks to the excellent performances of the season, they secured participation in the final tournament of the World Circuit, a kind of beach volleyball season of the Champions’ Tennis Tournament.
And they did great. With a clear shield, they advanced to the finals, where they were stopped by Norwegian Olympic winners from Tokyo, Anders Mol and Christian Sörum, after even sets 22:20, 23:21.
“The defeat will hurt for a while, but if someone told us before the season that we would have four World Series medals, silver in the final and end the season as world number two, we probably wouldn’t believe him. It’s a nice end to our dream season, “said Schweiner.
After all, the joy of a job well done on the Czech couple was already visible at the ceremony, their typical comic pose for photographers with exposed nipples was also taught by Anders Mola, so it was fun on the podium.
The tournament in Cagliari followed a long tournament break, which forced the elite teams to throw themselves into preparation again after the Olympic summit.

“During the training, we went through several fatigue crises, we adjusted the program in the gym about twice, but I’m proud of our coaches and us as we managed to time the form,” Schweiner could praise the team led by Italian coach Andrea Tomatis.

The only bottleneck in the magnificent season of the couple preparing for Strahov in Prague thus remains the Tokyo peripetia, when, as passengers of the infamous covid special, they had to miss one match after Perušič’s infection and did not advance from the group.
During the season, they indicated that it was uncertain whether their joint career would continue in the next Olympic cycle. After graduating from university, they wanted to have guarantees that they could make a living from professional sports and be able to train in appropriate conditions.
Now it seems that their wish will come true. “We want Andrea Tomatis to be able to stay with us with fitness trainer Valerio Vaccar, and we would also like to pack a youth team, because we have skilled young players behind us,” reveals Schweiner, who, like his partner, is 27 years old.
“We certainly want to continue with Perun to make up for Tokyo’s anabasis, qualify for Paris and confirm that we can play in big tournaments, which we have probably shown here as well,” adds Schweiner, who is already looking for a post-season holiday. “Maybe this year we will be without beach volleyball for more than fourteen days,” he smiles.
