The Ministry of Culture has signed five contracts with a total value of BGN 10,768,597.72 under the Operational Program “Regional Development” 2007-2013, the press service of the Ministry of Regional Development and Community Planning reports.
The grant-in-aid under the OPRD is provided under the scheme “Support for the provision of appropriate and effective state cultural infrastructure contributing to the development of sustainable urban areas”.
The funds will be used for major repairs and reconstruction of the National Museum of Bulgarian Fine Arts, construction, rehabilitation and modernization of the building of the Ruse Opera House, modernization of the main stage of the Drama Theater “St. Bachvarov” – city of Varna, rehabilitation of the building of the Professional High School of Printing and Photography, city of Sofia and modernization of the building of the National School of Music and Dance Art “Dobrin Petkov” – Plovdiv.
On May 20, 2009, a Framework Agreement was signed between the OPRD Managing Authority and the Ministry of Culture based on an approved medium-term framework investment program totaling BGN 28,773,608, of which BGN 24,457,567 was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund .
The first two contracts, concluded on 12.11.2009 – for the re-facade and reconstruction of the “Adriana Budevska” Drama Theater – Burgas and the major renovation of the building of the National Gallery of Foreign Art, have a total value of BGN 3,775,900.45.
With the 5 contracts signed today, the total amount of the grant provided to the Ministry of Culture under OPRD is BGN 14,544,498.
The deadline for submitting project sheets under the scheme is March 31, 2010. The governing body of the OPRD expects the Ministry of Culture to submit complete project documentation for the remaining 11 proposals included in the medium-term framework investment program of the Ministry of Culture under this scheme.
