The roundabout between Maritza Yug and Tsar Boris III Obedinitel boulevards at the Water Palace will be removed and a three-lane intersection will be built in its place. This is the final decision taken on the basis of the transport study of the designers of the amendments to the General Development Plan of Plovdiv and conducted correspondence and commissions, announced for Plovdiv24.bg Deputy Mayor for Construction and Investment Plamen Raichev.
The construction company “ISA 2000”, which was selected to build the breakthrough at the Water Palace, has received initial data from the municipality for the development of a working investment project for the site. The design deadline is 60 calendar days, which expire on July 8. Only after the preparation of the project documentation will it be possible to make a comparison between the new and implemented several years ago project under OP “Growing Regions” on Maritza South Blvd.
Plovdiv residents signaled to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works last year that the two projects overlap and violate the principle of sustainability, which is one of the main requirements for funding under EU programs. Correspondence between the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Ministry followed and in the end it was decided after the implementation of the design activities on the breakthrough to make a comparison with the first project and recapitulation of the affected areas.
The city administration is committed to send to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works all the project documentation in order to assess whether it is necessary to take action to recover funds. According to the Plovdiv authorities, the new project will not change the purpose of the already implemented infrastructure, but will contribute to upgrading and supplementing the development of the transport infrastructure of Plovdiv municipality.
Simultaneously, coordination procedures will be conducted with all operating companies and departments and the project will be presented to the Public Council, determined by a decision of the Municipal Council of Plovdiv, which includes representatives of professional guilds, including KIIP, CAB, the Chamber of Builders and etc.
At the moment it is not clear how the traffic in the area of the breakthrough will take place. The preparation of a project for temporary organization is part of the engineering and is to be developed and coordinated with the Traffic Police and OP “Transport Organization and Control” at the Municipality of Plovdiv.
