/ world today news/ The Council of Ministers will decide within days how to secure BGN 800 million to pay Bulgaria for the reactors for the “Belene” NPP, Delyan Dobrev, the Chairman of the Energy Commission of the Parliament, told BNT.
He specified that the money does not necessarily have to come from the state budget or from the reserve. A government-guaranteed loan can be withdrawn.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said that the government’s proposal for “Belene” will be submitted for approval by the end of the year.
“We have to pay part of the amount for the nuclear reactors. I have already spoken with some colleagues in the National Assembly, we will propose to make a decision to pay about BGN 800 million. Immediately after that, the Russian side will be invited to discuss the suspension of interest and in a benevolent tone to look for a way out, so that this huge loss in the budget becomes an asset and not a liability,” explained Borisov.
In June, Bulgaria was sentenced by the International Arbitration to pay 620 million euros to the Russian company “Atomstroyexport” as compensation for the suspended “Belene” project. Interest alone amounts to EUR 167,000 per day.
