A kick from behind sent a 34-year-old man downstairs on the subway, causing him to fall resoundingly, breaking both legs.
The blow was delivered by an individual who appears in the image of the surveillance video and who, according to the authorities, also shamelessly seems to take a photo as a trophy of the cowardly act he would have done.
“Death is there. It can be said that you cannot do that to another person. They don’t think about it when they do it,” said user Simón Marín.
The 18 concrete steps, reinforced with steel edges that make up a staircase, also caused the assaulted head and back injuries and bruises on his hands.
The act, said Nancy Hernández, is a reminder to be careful not only of what happens in front of her on the subway, but also behind her.
“I have to have eyes in the back of the head, to the sides. I’m always vigilant,” Hernandez said.
The apparently unprovoked attack took place at the entrance to the 6 train between East 138th Street and Brook Avenue, in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.
The incident occurred on Thursday at about 8:40 p.m. The station is right next to a Dunkin Donuts and corner grocery store, popular with neighborhood families.
Primitivo Almonte, a local resident, sees the problem in laws that he believes should be changed.
“The police do their job and the judges let them go. Because the police are doing their job,” Almonte said.
The shooter is described as a man about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs about 140 pounds, and fled the scene on foot along 138th Street and Ann Avenue.
He was last seen wearing a black North Face jacket, a black hoodie, black jean pants, and black sneakers.
After the push that nearly killed him, the 34-year-old man was taken to Lincoln Hospital where he is recovering.
