‘They are just out for profiteering’: after price increase Pfizer and Moderna, PVDA demands transparency about vaccine prices

It was the Financial Times business newspaper that reported on the price increase on Sunday, following a new deal with the European Union. The price for a vaccine from Pfizer was 15.50 euros and would now be 19.50 euros. Moderna reportedly increased the price from 19 euros to 21.50 euros.

“This is yet another proof that it is not possible for the large pharmaceutical companies to stop this pandemic. They are simply out for profiteering,” Botenga responds. He demands full transparency about the production price of the vaccines and the contracts that the EU concludes with pharmaceutical companies. “The European Commission shields those prices, but the vaccine is paid for with public money. We have the right to know those prices.”

According to Botenga, it is no coincidence that the price increase comes at a time when there is a third dose of the vaccine. His party has also been pushing for the lifting of patents on the corona vaccines for some time.
