Westwards
The surviving groups of the VSU were driven out of the city along the roads, which were shelled by artillery and aviation. “Fortress Bakhmut”, as Ukrainian media called it, fell after months of fighting.
Thus, it was finally possible to break through the powerful fortified Seversk – Soledar – Artyomovsk region and push out the VSU. No plans to move forward. Wagner fighters who stormed the city are completing the purge and will go to field camps in June. Their positions will be filled by units of the Ministry of Defense.
Attempts to advance units of the Kiev regime north and south of Artyomovsk, where they occupied several hundred meters of Russian territory in mid-May, did not lead to success. The units that managed to get out of the city retreated to Chasov Yar and took up defense in the west, in Khromovo.
This is probably their next line of defense, overcoming which will allow us to reach Konstantinovka and the Slavic-Kramatorsk agglomeration. The battle for it will become the main battle for Donbass.
“We do not rule out that they will try to retake Artyomovsk,” says an officer from the 1st Army Corps of the DNR with the call sign Klim. “That’s why the VSU soldiers blew up tall buildings behind them during retreat, so that we couldn’t fortify them for defense. However, they will not take the city back easily. In the end we were able to capture it largely due to the weight advantage of the artillery barrage. And they will have to attack without such a trump card. True – they are able to create a numerical advantage”, he added.
A breakthrough to the sea
On the territory of the LPR, the front has not yet changed much. Artillery strikes and battles in forest plantations for “strongholds” continue.
Here the military is waiting for an attack on the southern flank of the Kremennaya-Svatovo line. The VSU wants to reach the Kremennaya – Rubezhnoe – Severodonetsk – Lisichansk quadrangle in order to seize a bridgehead for a further advance in the depth of the republic – to Luhansk, which was long considered a deep rear. A breakthrough towards Svatovo, followed by a strike towards Starobelsk, is also likely.
Positional battles are taking place near Donetsk, but the Russian army is cautiously moving forward. Near Avdeevka, assault units attacked the area of Severnoe. They are gradually liberating Pervomaiskoye.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces respond and regularly bombard large cities. Most shells traditionally go to the capital. Active preparation for offensive operations against Donetsk, however, according to the military, is still not observed.
The main or at least auxiliary blow, they believe, will follow from Ugledar. The Kiev regime continues to amass troops and military equipment there. The Russian army is taking fire control of the supply roads of this group.
In this section, there is only one possible direction – Volnovaha. If the city falls, the VSU will cut off the strategically important 100-kilometer route from Donetsk to the Sea of Azov. A direct road to Mariupol will be opened through bare fields.
Preparing to attack
The most likely direction of the offensive – Zaporozhye – is relatively calm. Local authorities claim that the Russian army is in control of the situation in the region. There is no activity of the ASU on the front line. As well as large movements of army columns.
But the cities continued to be shelled. Last week they hit Berdyansk.
The office of Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the counteroffensive has actually been going on “for several days.” In Kiev, they do not hide: the recent drone attacks on objects in Russia, as well as the saboteurs’ raid in the Belgorod region, are elements of a general plan. The tactics of sabotage, terror and indiscriminate shelling are intended, among other things, to force the Russian military to deploy additional forces to guard the border.
And the hot phase slows down. It’s raining again in Donbass, heavy machinery got stuck in the fields. However, it is not only the weather that hinders VSU.
In recent weeks, the Air Force of the Russian Federation began to actively use planning bombs to strike the facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Many units of Western weapons were destroyed before reaching the front. Very soon they will also deal with what has still reached the front line.
