The break-in, which occurred shortly after midnight, saw a man enter the structure by climbing over the roof and then breaking into vending machines and rummaging through the changing rooms and offices in search of money or personal items.
The damage
Although the loot turned out to be modest, the moral damage was significant. Vitalica, born after the 1998 landslide thanks to Cei funds and to Caritashas represented a symbol of rebirth for the community for years. «The economic damage is limited, but this act is a blow to the heart of our centre – explains the president Nello Gaito –. Here we don’t just do sport: we have helped kids with drug addiction, people released from prison and families in difficulty. We haven’t been attacked for over ten years, but now it seems the territory is being targeted». The video surveillance cameras have filmed the perpetrator of the raid, the images are being examined by carabinieri from the Local tenancy.
