In the face of freezing winter season, DPS issues recommendations.

With winter weather forecast throughout the state of Texas, the Texas Department of Public Safety, DPS, advises the community to prepare for the potentially dangerous weather expected during the season of winter.
“The weather in Texas can be dangerous and unpredictable,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “It’s important to be prepared for winter weather and take action now to make sure you’re ready for whatever comes your way, whether it’s snow, ice, sleet or freezing temperatures.”
When it comes to winter weather, making sure your vehicle is properly maintained is critically important. Check the battery, windshield wipers, tire pressure and wear, as well as fluid levels, and make sure the door and trunk locks are lubricated to prevent freezing.
DPS recommends keeping an eye on local weather broadcasts and checking with the National Weather Service.
Be aware that ice accumulates on bridges and overpasses before drivers see it on roads and highways, so approach them more slowly during the ride. winter.
Avoid traveling when sleet, freezing rain or snow are forecast, but if you must drive in bad weather, wait longer to reach your destination.
On icy roads, drive slowly and increase the distance between your vehicle and others, as you may need more space to brake.
Do not use cruise control and make sure your vehicle has a full tank of gas.
